Presidents Preside Over Eagle Defeat

Talia Bertrando
Talia Bertrando netted her fourth hat trick of the year against W&J.

WASHINGTON, PA.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-5 decision at Washington and Jefferson, Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.

The Presidents tallied five goals while their goalkeeper turned in a strong first half as she denied all 10 of the Eagles shots on goal in the first half.

Mina Wilt (Wells Tannery, Pa. / Forbes Road) got the Eagles on the board a couple minutes into the second half to make it 6-1, but W&J responded with three goals to push their lead to eight. Talia Bertrando (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) scored with 11 minutes to go and Wilt added her second less than a minute later. Paige Riker (Sussex, N.J. / Vernon Township) setup Bertrando for her second before she scored unassisted again. The Presidents scored the final goal with two and half minutes to go in the game.

The Eagles had less turnovers as they had 23 to the Presidents 30, but W&J had a commanding 15-5 edge in draw controls.

Juniata will return to action a week from Sunday at home against Cedar Crest at 1:00.
