Bertrando Scores Eight as Eagles Defeat Tomcats

Talia Bertrando
Talia Bertrando set the single game goal mark (8) and the single game point mark (9) for the Eagles as she caused the Tomcat defense headaches all afternoon.

HUNTINGDON, Pa.-The Juniata women's lacrosse team got back to their winning ways with a resounding 15-3 with over Thiel, Monday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.

Talia Bertrando (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) scored five goals over the first 17 minutes of action, with Natalie Gibson (Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck) providing two assists and Mina Wilt (Wells Tannery, Pa. / Forbes Road) adding one of her own as the Eagles built a 5-0 lead. The Tomcats got two back before Bertrando turned provider as Paige Riker (Sussex, N.J. / Vernon Township) added her name to the scoresheet. Arielle Danchenko (Palm City, Fla. / South Fork) scored an unassisted goal to send the Eagles into the locker room up 7-2.

The Eagles continued to dominate in the second half as two Bertrando free position goals bookended a Cindy Kernick (Crescent, Pa. / Moon Area) goal off a feed from Riker in the opening nine minutes of the second half. Bertrando's first goal broke the single game point mark as she reached seven; while her second goal gave her seven on the day  which is the most goals scored in a single game so far in school history.

Gibson found the back of the net on a free position attempt before Danchenko scored twice in two minutes, with the second off a slick Gibson pass. Thiel got one back with 10 minutes to go before Gibson bagged her second goal four minutes later. Gibson tallied her fourth assist as she setup Bertrando for her eighth goal.

The Eagles return to action this Saturday at Washington and Jefferson. Game time is at 1:00.
