FREDERICK, Md.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team suffered their first defeat of the year as they fell at Hood, 14-3, Saturday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.
The Blazers struck twice in the opening four minutes as Isabella Medaris (Monroe, Conn. / Masulk) was busy early and often. Both teams' defenses held strong as neither team could score over the next 15 minutes until Natalie Gibson (Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck) finally broke through for the Eagles. The Blazers found the back of the net four more times in a little over two minutes which made it 6-1. Talia Bertrando's (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) free position goal to make it 6-2 was the final one of the half as the Eagles trailed by four.
The teams traded goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second half as the Blazers scored while playing a woman down. But less than two minutes later Mina Wilt (Wells Tannery, Pa. / Forbes Road) scored on free position attempt to pull JC back within four. That was as close as the Eagles got as the Blazers scored the final seven goals of the game to complete the score line.
Medaris made 10 saves in goal for Juniata.
The Eagles return to action at home Monday against Thiel, at 4:00.
