Eagles Move to 2-0 With Victory Over Chargers

Talia Bertrando
Talia Bertrando was all over the stat sheet as she amassed four goals with an assist, four ground balls, two draw controls and six caused turnovers.

HUNTINGDON, Pa.-The Juniata women's lacrosse team picked up their second straight victory with a 13-8 victory over Lancaster Bible on a chilly Wednesday evening at Gibbel Stadium.

The Chargers struck first seven minutes, but Natalie Gibson (Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck) responded a minute later. The teams traded goals, with a Talia Bertrando (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) goal tying things up at 2-2. This was the beginning of a three-goal run as Gibson added her second before Bertrando struck for her second to make it 4-2 Juniata with 11 minutes to go in the half. The Chargers found the back of the JC net to pull within one, but the Eagles responded with another three-pack of goals. Arielle Danchenko (Palm City, Fla. / South Fork) got on the score sheet, Gibson found Mina Wilt (Wells Tannery, Pa. / Forbes Road) for her first while Bertrando completed her hat-trick with a free position shot. The Chargers scored in the final 30 seconds to get the lead to three, 7-4.

It was a fast and furious first three minutes of the second half as Lancaster Bible struck twice while Gibson tallied her third as the Eagles led shrunk to two. Juniata took control of the game from there as they scored four goals over the next 17 minutes to push their lead to six. Cindy Kernick (Crescent, Pa. / Moon Area) scored off a feed from Wilt, Bertrando scored on another free position shot, Danchenko scored unassisted, Bertrando turned provider as she found Wilt for her second goal. The Chargers scored twice to get within five, but Danchenko slammed the door shut by cutting from behind the goal and beating the keeper to made it 13-8 with to 2:43 to go.

The Eagles will travel to Hood, Saturday at 12:00.
