Bulldogs Surge Past Eagles in Second Half

Bulldogs Surge Past Eagles in Second Half

HUNTINGDON, Pa.-The Juniata women's lacrosse team lost to DeSales, 13-6, on a cold Wednesday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.

Zoe Fishter (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) tallied two goals, Arielle Danchenko (Palm City, Fla./South Fork HS) had two goals, five ground balls and four caused turnovers. Mina Wilt (Wells Tannery, Pa./Forbes Road) had one goal, one assist, three ground balls, six draw controls and two caused turnovers. Lauren Rowe (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area HS) added one goal. Santana Mays (Parkton, Md./Hereford) added an assist and a ground ball.

The Bulldogs struck three times in the opening three minutes as JC fell in an early hole. Danchenko picked up the ball with less than 10 seconds on the shot clock, sprinted towards goal and fired a shot past the keeper to put JC on the board. DeSales scored again but JC quickly countered when Wilt found Rowe in front of the net to make it 4-2. DeSales struck again to push the lead to back to three but JC didn't quit. A free position goal from Wilt and a Fishter goal off an assist from Mays sent JC into the half down one at 5-4. The Eagles held DeSales without a goal for 25 minutes.

Danchenko scored a little over six minutes into the second half to knot the score at five. The Bulldogs took control over the next 20 minutes, scoring six goals as they took a commanding 12-5 lead with just over four minutes left in the game. Fishter scored on a free position shot but that was the final goal for Juniata.

The Eagles will host Goucher, Saturday at 1:00.
