Eagles Edge Wildcats

Eagles Edge Wildcats

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Juniata women's lacrosse team edged the Randolph WildCats, 10-8, Monday evening at WildCat stadium.

Arielle Danchenko (Palm City, Fla./South Fork HS) tallied three goals and won four draw controls. Kylie Edwards (Danville, Pa./Danville) scored three goals and had one assist, Natalie Gibson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) scored twice, had an assist, scooped up four ground balls, and won two draw controls, and both Lauren Rowe (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area HS) and Zoe Fishter (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) tallied a goal each.

The WildCats were first to score after several turnovers were exchanged by both teams in the early minutes of play. With a little over 17 minutes left in the frame, Danchenko scored to tie things up at 1-1. The Eagles continued to press offensively with Edwards tallying two goals and Fishter scoring off a free position attempt to go up 4-1 before Randolph answered back with a goal of their own.

Edwards scored her third goal of the game with 9:14 left, but the WildCats did not back down, narrowing the Eagles' advantage to 5-4 with less than eight minutes to go. Randolph scored again at the 3:33 marker, but JC battled back to end the half up 6-5 after Rowe scored off an assist from Edwards.

JC was first to score in the eighteenth minute of the second half after strong defensive display from both sides. Danchenko's goal sparked the Eagles' 4-0 run, giving the team a 10-5 lead. The WildCats scored three quick goals in the last nine minutes of the contest, but the team was unsuccessful in their pursuit to catch the Eagles as JC soared to a 10-8 victory.

Isabella Medaris (Monroe, Conn./Masulk) logged eight saves for the Eagles.

Juniata returns to action tomorrow to face Averett at 4:00pm.
