HUNTINGDON, PA- In addition to recognizing the members of the class of 2014 being inducted into the Juniata Sports Hall of Fame at halftime of the Eagles’ football game on Saturday, Juniata will also retire the jersey of Bob Sill ’59. Sill was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1996.
Sill wore #12 and played on undefeated Juniata football teams in 1954, 1955, and 1958 and led Juniata in receiving in his senior year. He was selected as an honorable mention All-Middle Atlantic Conference selection. Bob was a three-year letter- winner while starting at fullback. He led Juniata in rushing in his sophomore year as JC went to the Tangerine Bowl. Bob finished second in the state of Pennsylvania in rushing in 1955.
Sill has been a loyal supporter of Juniata College and Juniata Athletics and profoundly impacted the campus and community. His interests and achievements are considerable. Besides establishing and running a very successful State Farm agency, he established and managed a campground, was instrumental in National Properties’ financial success and made multiple personal investments in real estate. He applied that expertise in the founding of the Sill Business Incubator and in mentoring student entrepreneurs through the Juniata College Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership. Bob also served as President of the Alumni Association.
This is just the second time that a Juniata football jersey has been retired. In 2007, the jersey of Joe Kershishnik was retired by the school. Kershishnik was member of the class of 1977 but was tragically killed in a coal mine accident on November 18, 1976. He wore #86 for Juniata.
