HUNTINGDON, Pa. – With each of their respective athletic careers at Juniata College officially over, the Eagle senior student-athletes had their sights on one more milestone, graduation.  There were 75 student-athletes who participated in the 136th Annual Commencement on Saturday, May 17 to receive their degrees.

As the president of the class of 2014, Eagle baseball’s Dan Gray (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) provided the remarks from the graduates during the program.  His speech gave words of encouragement and challenged not only the graduates, but everyone in attendance, to look beyond face value and see not what things are, but what they can become in the future.

Nearly two-thirds of the student-athletes received a Bachelor of Science degree during the ceremony.

Several student-athletes received high honors.  Eagle softball’s Lydia Gorba (Portage, Pa./Portage) graduated Magna Cum Laude and received honors from the English and Psychology departments.  Holding true to the student-athlete model, 11 others graduated Cum Laude:
Emma Dahmus (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) – Field Hockey
John Dubensky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry Traditional) – Football
Anthony Glossner (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley) – Men’s Soccer
Jennifer Graves (Amston, Conn./Manchester) – Women’s Soccer
Hillary Palmer (Fayetteville, Ga./Fayette County) – Women’s Swimming
Elliott Perow (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) – Men’s Tennis
Paula Pryor (Westbrookvile, N.Y./Burke Catholic) – Women’s Soccer/Track & Field
Brian Scholly (State College, Pa./State College Area) – Men’s Basketball
Nathan Strom (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) – Baseball
Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) – Women’s Volleyball
Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) – Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field

Scholly also received honors from two separate departments: education and history.  There were 14 departmental honors distributed to student-athletes, as well as, four diplomas of distinction, two Juniata College Honor Society selections, and five inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Society.
