Cardinals Claim Landmark Quarterfinal Win Over Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's tennis team's return trip to the Landmark Conference Playoffs came to an end in a 1-5 loss to the Catholic University of America on Wednesday afternoon at the Raffensperger Tennis Courts. It marked the first appearance in the Landmark postseason since 2020-21 for the Eagles. 

Ezenna Emuka and Utsav Deravariya closed out their Juniata careers with Juniata's lone win of the day in third doubles by an 8-6 scoreline. Adrián Di Benedetto Vásquez and Basile Gandon fell 5-8 in first doubles, while Arthur DeYoung and Ross Conway was defeated 1-8 in second doubles. 

Catholic scored their first singles win in third singles, as DeYoung was defeated 2-6, 0-6 in third singles. Di Benedetto Vásquez was defeated 3-6, 1-6 in first singles to get the Cardinals within a match of securing the win. Emuka was defeated 2-6, 0-6 in sixth singles to confirm a Catholic win. 

Gandon was ahead 6-3, 5-0 in second singles, while Conway dropped the first set of fourth singles and began to rally back in the second set, 3-6, 5-4. Dillon Murphy was trailing 3-6, 2-5 in fifth singles at the conclusion of the match. 

The Eagles end 2023-24 with an 11-7, 6-3 record following a 5-8, 1-6 2022-23 season.
