Eagles Trump Royals

Eagles Trump Royals

HUNTINGDON, PA- Juniata's women's volleyball team defeated The University of Scranton Royals on Saturday in their 18th consecutive 3-0 sweep of the 2024-25 season.

The match started very tight. Neither team gained more than a one point lead as the match was tied at every point until the score read 10-10. Then, the Eagles went on a 10-2 run to finally pull away from the Royals. Holding an eight point lead and being just five points away from winning the set put the Eagles in a favorable position. They were able to close out the set 25-18 with the final point coming from a service ace by Kiona Sky Rousset-Hernandez

Set two began very similarly to set one, as neither team established any significant lead early. At 7-7 the Eagles won the serve off of a Scranton service error, and then, through three big kills, took an 11-7 lead. The Royals resisted, but ultimately the Eagles took control of set two, winning four consecutive points on three separate occasions late. Set two ended 25-15 on a kill by Mackenzie Coley

In set three, Juniata started with an 8-3 run, and were able to gain the early lead that had escaped them in sets one and two. After that, Scranton never came within more than four points of the Juniata lead. Audrey Muth would get the kill on set point as the Eagles took set three by the same scoreline as set two, 25-15.

Coley led the Eagles with a remarkable 19 kills and Olivia Foley totaled 43 assists. Rousset-Hernandez made a match-high 16 digs.

The Eagles will have the week off until next Saturday when they host York and Baldwin Wallace in a doubleheader to close out the regular season.
