BETHLEHEM, PA- The Juniata women's volleyball team defeated the Moravian University Greyhounds in a 3-0 sweep on the road Friday night to add another win to their unscathed conference record.
Moravian made it known that they would be a difficult opponent right from point one. The teams traded points early in the first set, and the Eagles didn't gain their first lead until 5-4. The game was thrice more after that at 6-6, 7-7, and 8-8, before the Eagles went on a 9-2 run to establish some separation between themselves and the Greyhounds. Moravian was unable to put a run together to make up the difference, and the Juniata lead would only keep growing. Despite some late resistance from the Greyhounds, the Eagles took set one 25-19 with the final point coming off of a kill by Kennedy Christy.
In set two the Eagles did well to establish a lead early. They won eight out of the first ten points, starting the set on an 8-2 run. The Greyhounds never won consecutive points until the final three points of the set; the Eagles were responding very well after each point they conceded, keeping the pressure on. Their lead grew to as big as 13, as the set ended 25-12 in favor of Juniata. The Eagles never trailed in the set. The final point was clinched on a kill by Lily Podolan.
Set three was simply dominated by Juniata. Sydney Ohl hit the opening serve for the Eagles, and she would do so five more times before giving the ball to the Greyhounds for a single point. At 5-1, the Eagles won a remarkable 13 points in a row. Kiona Sky Rousset-Hernandez had five service aces and Molly Mishinkash had two kills in the run. At 18-1, there was no coming back for Moravian. The Eagles won the set 25-8, as the match was sealed on a kill by Audrey Muth.
Courtney Williams led the Eagles in kills on the day with 12, while Olivia Foley made 39 assists and Rousset-Hernandez was top in the digs category at nine.
The Eagles will look to build on their unscathed record in another conference matchup tomorrow, at Wilkes University.
