Women's Volleyball Opens Conference Play with 3-0 Sweep Over Goucher

Women's Volleyball Opens Conference Play with 3-0 Sweep Over Goucher

TOWSON, MD- The Juniata women's volleyball team opened up conference play for the 2024-25 campaign with a 3-0 sweep over the Goucher Gophers on Friday night. The team has also now won 74 matches in a row.

Juniata dominated the match from point one and never really gave the Gophers an opportunity to contend in each set.

After Goucher won the first point on a bad set, the Eagles won the next nine in a row in set one, four of which came from aces by Kiona Sky Rousset-Hernandez . They would only give up six more points for the rest of the set, eventually winning it 25-7 on an ace from Sydney Ohl

Set two unfolded in a similar fashion. The Eagles went on a seven-point burst twice winning points from 4-3 to 11-3 and from 14-5 to 21-5. This time the Gophers reached eight points before the Eagles won the set 25-8 on an Emily Sullivan kill.

The final set was going to be no different in a match where, on average, the Eagles won three points for every Gopher point. Goucher had it tied at 3-3, and were within one point at 5-4, but the surge from Juniata seemed inevitable. At 12-7, Juniata won 13 of the last 16 points in the set to win it 25-10.

Sullivan led the match in kills with nine, while Maeve Edmund contributed eight, including the winning point in set three. Abbey Telesz added 22 assists and Sophia Repholz totaled 12 digs.

The Eagles will travel to Washington, D.C. tomorrow to play in a doubleheader against Catholic University in a Landmark Conference matchup at 12:00 p.m., and later against the University of Mary Washington at 2:00 p.m.
