HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The #10 Juniata women's volleyball team got the win on senior day, winning 3-0 (28-26, 25-18, 25-15) over visiting Wesleyan (Conn.) Friday evening on day one of the Wid Guisler Tournament inside Memorial Gymnasium.
The rematch of the 2018 Elite 8 matchup started off tight, with neither team holding more than a two-point lead the entire way in the opening set. The Cardinals took two points to get to set point at 23-24, before kills from Kennedy Christy (Saxonburg, Pa. / Knoch HS) and Lily Podolan (Columbus, Ohio / Worthington Kilbourne) made it 25-24. Following a Wesleyan timeout, they captured the next two points to reach set point, but again the Eagles had a response. Christy put down another kill, the Cardinals committed an attack error, and McKenna Walker (York, Pa. / York Catholic) closed the set with an ace.
Set two saw the teams exchange runs, as Juniata used an 11-2 run to go up 11-4 early, but the Cardinals countered with a 9-2 rally to make it 13-13. From that point on, the Eagles dominated as they closed on a 12-5 run, winning set two on a block from Christy and Mackenzie Coley (Norco, Calif. / Norco HS).
