Eagles Takedown #18 Johnson and Wales

Morgan Edwards

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.- The Juniata women's volleyball team swept #18 Johnson and Wales, 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-18), Saturday morning at Silloway Gymnasium.

The opening set was tight between the two teams, with Juniata maintaining a narrow lead most of the way. With the score at 17-15, a kill from Victoria Taylor (Middletown, Del. / Delaware Military Academy), an attack error by the Wildcats and a block by Morgan Edwards (Lancaster, Pa. / Penn Manor) and Moira Folan (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Oakland Catholic HS) made it 20-15 Eagles. The teams traded points down the stretch, with an Edwards kill moving JC to set point and Dejia Danhi's (Ashburn, Va. / Stone Bridge) kill ended set one 25-19. Juniata hit .395 in the set.

The Eagles hit even better in the second set, with a strong .400 hitting percentage helping them to an easy win in the second set while they hell the Wildcats to .200. With the score at 9-8,  a 12-2 surge from the Eagles allowed them to blow the set wide open and cruise to a 25-15 victory.

In the final set of the match, Juniata just kept adding to their lead as Johnson and Wales pulled within four at 10-6 early but got no closer the rest of the way. Later, a kill from Taylor gave the Eagles match point. The Wildcats scored the next three points to make it 24-18 before an attack error by the Johnson and Wales ended the match.
