BEAVER FALLS, PA- Looking to end a three match winless streak, the Juniata women's volleyball team did just that as it won 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-23) over Geneva College on Wednesday night. The win improves the Eagles' record to 19-5 overall while the Golden Tornadoes drop to 18-7.
Kelly Reynolds (Upper Saint Clair, PA/Upper Saint Clair) registered a double-double with 27 assists and 11 digs. Brittani Young (Columbia, PA/Hempfield Area) added 20 digs. Gabrielle Ooyama (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and Amelia Kepler (Kane, PA/Area) both chipped in nine digs with Kepler also adding five kills. Megan Moroney (Mentor, OH/Mentor) tallied 10 kills.
The Eagles fell behind early in the first set but quickly recovered to lead by as much as 15-11. Geneva rallied to overtake Juniata and went up 20-17. Following a timeout, JC collected itself and rattled off an 8-2 run to close out the game and go up 1-0.
Juniata broke open an 8-8 tie with back-back points to go up 10-8 in the second game. From there, the Eagles surged ahead and led by no less than eight points on their way to claim the set.
JC led 22-20 in the third frame but the Golden Tornadoes came back to take the lead and were just two points away from forcing a fourth game. The Eagles ended the Geneva threat by getting the crucial points they needed to win the game and the match.
The Eagles will play the final round of Landmark Conference matches on Saturday. Juniata plays host Merchant Marine at 11 a.m. and ends with Scranton at 4 p.m.
