Correia Improves Program Hammer Throw Record, Barbacci Wins Two Events at Etown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.- The Juniata women's track and field team competes in their final meet ahead of next weekend's Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Saturday's Blue Jay Tuneup from Elizabethtown. Nandee Correia won the hammer throw and improved on her program record mark in the event, while Olivia Barbacci won both the pole vault and 400-meter hurdles.  

Correia won the hammer throw with a mark of 45.59 meters, setting a new personal and program best in the process. She broke the program record for the second consecutive week following her 40.39-meter mark at last weekend's Mason-Dixon Classic at Gettysburg. Chloe Sauer finished in 18th place in the event with a mark of 28.73 meters. Emma Coolidge set a new personal record with a throw of 28.46 meters to earn 16th place. Her previous best mark was 26.32 meters, also set at Gettysburg last week. Justice Sheaffer also achieved a PR with a mark of 21.81 meters to claim 22nd place. She had set a mark of 20.04 meters at Shippensburg earlier this month. 

Barbacci won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.17, a new personal best. She set a time of 1:06.22 at Shippensburg this month, staying fourth in program history with the new time. Beck Mensch also achieved a personal record with a time of 1:22.59. Her previous best time was 1:25.09, also set at Shippensburg.  

Barbacci also earned a pole vault event win with a mark of 3.15 meters, 0.05 meters off her season best jump from Gettysburg last week. Ashley Alfree tied for eighth in the event with a mark of 2.40 meters on her first attempt. Josie Kelly was tenth with the same mark after starting at 2.25 meters on the day. 

Correia earned silver in the shot put with an 11.30-meter mark to continue a strong afternoon. Coolidge achieved a PR with a 10.36-meter mark to earn seventh place. Her previous best mark of 10.99 meters was set at the 2023 Millersville Metrics. Sauer was eighth with a mark of 10.09 meters. Kaleah Leisher was 14th with a mark of 8.89 meters.  

Sheaffer claimed second in the javelin throw with a mark of 30.04 meters. Her previous best throw was 29.65 meters, set at Gettysburg last week.  

Leisher was fourth in the discus throw with a mark of 33.70 meters, achieving a new personal record. Her best throw prior was 32.10 meters, set last week at Gettysburg. Sauer hit a PR in 11th with a mark of 30.66 meters. Her previous best mark was 30.46 meters, set at Shippensburg earlier this month. Correia was 12th with a 30.44-meter throw. Coolidge claimed 23rd place with a mark of 24.93 meters. Sheaffer was 34th with a throw of 20.04 meters. 

Rebecca Christophel claimed bronze in the 800 meters with her season-best time of 2:26.74. Camille McRoberts was ninth with a time of 2:31.29.  

Kelly earned sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.36, setting a new best time. Her previous best time was 18.51, set at Gettysburg last Saturday. Abby Sheredy also raced in the event and earned ninth with a time of 19.78.  

McRoberts and Ashley Anderson both set PRs in the 1500 meters. McRoberts was tenth with a time of 5:14.64. Her previous best time was 5:20.69 from last week at Gettysburg. Anderson was 25th with a time of 6:36.06. Her best time prior was 6:41.01 from the Westminster Invite this year.  

Anderson set her first collegiate 400-meter time, a 1:26.59, to earn 12th. 

Mensch's first 100-meter time of 14.69 put her in 19th. 

Sheredy earned 24th place in the 200 meters with a time of 33.40.  

Alfree tied for 11th in the high jump with a mark of 1.37 meters, while Kelly was unable to clear 1.37 meters.  

Kelly was 12th in the long jump with a mark of 4.27 meters. 

Juniata earned fourth place from 13 competing schools with a score of 66.5.

The Juniata women's track and field team competes in next weekend's Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, May 4th, and Sunday, May 5th.
