Barbacci Wins 400 Meter Hurdles at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- The Juniata women's track and field team competed in the first of two meets this week at Wednesday's Shippensburg Mid-Week Meet. Olivia Barbacci had a strong afternoon, winning the 400-meter hurdles and setting Juniata's fourth-best time in the event. 

Barbacci set her first 400-meter hurdles time for Juniata, winning the event with a time of 1:06.22. This puts her fourth in program history. Beck Mensch also raced in the event, setting a personal record with a time of 1:25.09. She improved on her 1:28.42 at Saturday's Westminster Invitational.  

Barbacci also placed well in the high jump, finishing seventh place with a mark of 1.55 meters. It's a new personal record, improving on a mark of 1.50 meters that she set last week. Ashley Alfree also set a season-high mark in the event with a mark of 1.40 meters, tying for 11th place. 

Rebecca Christophel earned sixth place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:26.98. Camille McRoberts made a 4.5-second improvement from last week for a new personal best time of 2:29.77, finishing in 11th place. Ashley Anderson set her first time in the event for the event, finishing in 24th place with a time of 3:13.91.  

Four Juniata throwers set a personal record in the discus throw. Nandee Correia had the team's best mark as she finished in 13th place with a mark of 31.91 meters. Kaleah Leisher set a personal best, finishing in 16th place with a mark of 31.46 meters. She had set a 30.31-meter mark to open the season at Millersville. Chloe Sauer had a mark of 30.46 meters, finishing in 19th place. Her previous-best mark was 27.40 meters, also set at Millersville. Emma Coolidge's new best mark of 28.46 meters earned her 23rd place. She had a mark of 28.17 meters at last season's Landmark Championships. Justice Sheaffer set a personal record of 21.35 meters to finish 35th. Her previous best mark was 20.93 meters, set this weekend at Westminster. 

Juniata's throwers also competed in the hammer throw. Sauer had the team's best mark, finishing 31st with a 21.77-meter mark for a new personal record. She had set a 25.60-meter mark to open the season at Millersville. Coolidge was 33rd with a mark of 24.75 meters. Sheaffer earned 35th place with a mark of 20.04 meters to set a personal record. She set a 19.58-meter mark at Millersville. Leisher was a spot behind with a mark of 19.29 meters.  

Zoe Biles raced in the 100 meters with a time of 13.68 to finish in 28th place. 

Christophel had Juniata's best time in the 200 meters, finishing in 33rd with a time of 28.55. Biles was 35th with a time of 28.88, while Alfree was 38th with a time of 29.26. McRobert's first 200-meter time for Juniata earned her 41st place with a time of 29.82. Mensch also raced in the 200 meters for the first time, finishing in 50th place with a time of 32.16. Abby Sheredy finished in 52nd with a time of 33.99, while Anderson was 53rd with a time of 38.41.  

Sheaffer also raced in the 1500 meters for the first time, finishing in 17th place with a time of 6:18.64.  

Sheredy raced in the 100-meter hurdles, setting a new personal record with a time of 19.36 to finish in 16th place. She had set a 19.69 at Westminster last weekend. 

The Juniata women's track and field team compete again this Saturday at the Gettysburg Mason-Dixon Invite.
