Women's Track and Field Competes at Ship Mid-Week Meet

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- The Juniata women's track and field team had a single-day meet as they competed at the Ship Mid-Week Meet at Shippensburg University on Wednesday evening. Three Eagles set personal records in track events on the day.

The Eagles competed in four track events, including the 4x400-meter relay, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, and 800-meter race.

The 4x400 meter team of Rebecca Christophel, Olivia Barbacci, Ashley Alfree, and Zoe Biles claimed third out of four teams with a 4:19.07, their best time of the year by over 1.5 seconds.

The 100-meter dash saw Barbacci set a new personal record with a 13.50 to claim ninth place out of 15. She takes 0.28 seconds off her time set at the Millersville Metrics in early April. Biles also set a personal best in the event with a 14.50 to finish in 15th place. She takes 0.24 seconds away from her previous best, also set at the Millersville Metrics. Alfree also raced in the 100-meter dash, setting her first time in the event for Juniata with a 14.63 to claim 16th.

In the 200-meter dash, Alfree logged a time of 29.32 to finish 22nd out of 28 competitors. It's also her first time as an Eagle in that race.

Barbacci also set a personal best in the 400-meters with a time of 1:01.26 which gave her eighth out of 20. Her previous best was a 1:04.50 set at the Millersville Metrics.

Christophel was able to set her best 800-meter event mark on the day as well, claiming 5th place from a field of 21 with a time of 2:26.92. She takes over fourth-and-a-half seconds from her previous best set at the Ed Fry Invitational at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania earlier this season.

Emma Coolidge competed in a pair of field events, including the hammer throw and the shot put. Her shot-put mark was 9.61 meters which earned her ninth place from 22. Her first hammer throw for Juniata was 24.56 meters to claim 25th place.

The Juniata women's track and field team compete this weekend on Friday, April 21st, and Saturday, April 22nd, as they compete at Moravian University's Coach P Invitational.
