WILLIAMSPORT, Pa - Despite a strong showing from senior Medina Yessenaliyeva, Juniata fell 5–2 to Goucher in a tough matchup on April 5.
Yessenaliyeva dominated at #1 singles, posting a swift 6–0 win over Goucher's Meline Siggen to claim one of the Eagles' two points on the day. Juniata also picked up a win via forfeit at #3 doubles, but Goucher controlled the rest of the match.
The doubles point went to Goucher after hard-fought wins at both #1 and #2. Yessenaliyeva and Celia Navarro de Torres pushed Goucher's top duo to the brink, but ultimately fell 7–5. In singles, Goucher took four of five contested matches in straight sets.
The closest singles match came at #2, where Navarro de Torres grabbed the opening set 6–4 before Goucher's Lucy Ingraham mounted a comeback, taking the next two sets 6–2, 6–1 to clinch the win.
