WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Juniata women's tennis team competed against Catholic University on March 29 at the Dowd Family Tennis Courts, falling 5-2 in a competitive match.
Catholic controlled the doubles matches, sweeping all three contests to take the early point. Medina Yessenaliyeva and Celia Navarro de Tor dropped their No. 1 doubles match 6-1. At No. 2, Charley Madlock and Sydney Madlock fell 6-2, while Nina Meadows and Katie Wagoner were defeated 6-1 at No. 3.
In singles play, Medina Yessenaliyeva performed well at No. 1, securing a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6(7-4) victory. Charley Madlock also claimed a win at No. 5 singles, rallying for a 3-6, 6-4 result.
Despite those efforts, Catholic took four singles matches to clinch the team victory. Celia Navarro de Tor battled at No. 2 but came up short in a 4-6, 6-4 loss. Nina Meadows fell in a close match at No. 3, 6-7(3), 2-6. Sydney Madlock also pushed her opponent to a tiebreak in the opening set at No. 4 but ultimately fell 6-7(14), 2-6. At No. 6 singles, Katie Wagoner was defeated 1-6, 2-6.
