JC Competes at Cougar Splash Day Two

DALLAS, Pa. - The Juniata women's swimming team concluded the Cougar Splash Invitational, competing in both morning and afternoon sessions on Saturday at Misericordia University.

The 200-yard medley relay started the morning, with the A team of Delany Wetzel, Lena Englerth, Danielle Cline, and Norah McClain securing ninth place with a time of 2:00.66, earning eight points for the team score. The B relay of Mattie Froude, Juliana Varner, Miriam Struble-Hedstrom, and Grace Finch placed 12th, contributing two points with a time of 2:08.46.

In the 400-yard IM, Abby Ortiz and Maegan Jordan represented Juniata. Ortiz placed eighth with a time of 5:11.20, while Jordan claimed ninth with 5:15.04.

The 100-yard butterfly saw Cline finishing eighth in 1:05.31. Finch and Amanda Puza also competed, placing 17th (1:12.99) and 19th (1:16.92), respectively.

Wetzel led the way in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing 12th with a time of 2:08.13. Puza followed in 21st, clocking 2:25.72.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, McClain placed 11th with a time of 1:16.04. Varner and Englerth also competed, placing 15th and 16th, respectively, with times of 1:17.71 and 1:18.81.

The 100-yard backstroke featured Froude in 19th (1:08.47), Snabu Neupane in 23rd (1:30.13), and Marian Eskarous in 24th (1:36.24).

Juniata's A relay team of Cline, Ortiz, Wetzel, and McClain closed the morning session with the 800-yard freestyle relay, finishing sixth in 8:33.28. The B team of Jordan, Puza, Kimberlyn Beeler, and Froude finished 10th (9:08.07).

 

The afternoon began with the 1650-yard freestyle, where Jordan finished 12th with 20:58.07. Puza followed in 14th with a time of 21:49.60.

In the 200-yard backstroke, McClain led Juniata, placing 18th with a time of 2:36.01. Wetzel raced in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking 1:00.72 for 19th place.

In the 200-yard breaststroke McClain placed 12th in 2:47.88. Varner and Englerth rounded out the effort in 14th (2:49.92) and 15th (2:53.66), respectively.

To conclude the Cougar Splash, the A relay of Wetzel, Ortiz, Cline, and McClain swam the 400-yard freestyle relay, placing 11th with a time of 4:06.33.

Juniata finished in sixth place. The women's swimming team will return to action on Saturday, January 18, competing in a conference tri-meet against Wilkes and Lycoming.
