Women's Swimming Dominates Tri-Meet

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The women's swimming team bested two other programs in a tri-meet Saturday afternoon. The Eagles hosted Franciscan and Marywood and beat them 174-84 and 151-108 in Binder Natatorium to make for an undefeated season so far. 

The meet started with a first-place finish in the 400-meter medley relay. The team of Abby Ortiz, Lena Englerth, Danielle Cline, and Norah McClain bested the Pacers' and Barons' teams with a time of 5:03.43.

Delany Wetzel showed her dominance in the 800-meter freestyle by placing first with a time of 10:24.07. Kimber Beeler finished fifth with a time of 11:52.21.

Three Eagles swam in the 200-meter freestyle. McClain claimed second with a time of 2:25.41 as Maegan Jordan placed third with a time of 2:30.63. Mattie Froude finished fifth with a time of 2:35.57. Wetzel claimed another first place finish with a time of 36.07 in the 50-meter backstroke. Ortiz placed fourth with a time of 36.94 and Marian Eskarous finished in eighth with a time of 51.47.

Englerth claimed her own first place finish in the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 39.33. Manali Misra and Juliana Varner claimed fifth and sixth with times of 43.13 and 43.20. 

Cline and Miriam Struble-Hedstrom competed in the 100-meter butterfly claiming second and fourth with times of 1:14.71 and 1:35.35.

The 50-meter freestyle saw three JC swimmers. Grace Finch made her debut in the pool this season with a fourth-place finish and a time of 31.40. Beeler was right behind in fifth with a time of 32.87 and Varner claimed seventh with a time of 33.05. 

Cline claimed the 100-meter freestyle with a first-place finish and a time of 1:06.29. Varner finished in third with a time of 1:13.04 and Struble-Hedstrom placed seventh with a time of 1:19.57. 

The Eagles claimed first, second, and fifth in the 100-meter backstroke. Ortiz with a time of 1:19.20, Jordan with a time of 1:19.38, and Froude with a time of 1:22.06.

McClain dominated the 100-meter breaststroke with a first-place finish and a time of 1:26.19. Englerth claimed third with a time of 1:29.86 and Misra finished in seventh with a time of 1:35.39. 

Wetzel and Beeler claimed second and sixth in the 400-meter freestyle with times of 5:03.62 and 5:42.11.

The 50-meter butterfly saw Ortiz finish in third with a time of 36.05, Froude claiming fourth with a time of 36.43, and Struble-Hedstrom placing sixth with a time of 40.58.

Jordan claimed the 400-meter IM with a first-place finish with a time of 5:53.24. McClain placed third with a time of 6:12.20 and Misra finished in sixth with a time of 6:46.73.

The meet ended on a high note as the team of Froude, Varner, Wetzel, and Cline finished first in the 400-meter freestyle relay with a time of 4:37.27. The team of Beeler, Englerth, Misra, and Jordan claimed fourth with a time of 4:53.56. 

The Eagles face another dual meet next weekend against Ursinus and McDaniel.
