Women's Swimming Open Season with Win over Goucher

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata women's swimming team start their season with a win over the Gophers Saturday afternoon in Binder Natatorium. The Eagles defeated the Gophers 157-96. 

 The team of Eloise Froude, Lena Englerth, Delany Wetzel, and Danielle Cline started the day by besting two other Gopher teams in the 200-meter medley with a time of 2:19.07. 

Two Eagles faced each other in the 800-meter freestyle. Maegan Jordan finished first with a time of 10:35.74 while Abby Ortiz finished second with a time of 10:44.35. 

Norah McClain, Danielle Cline, and Kimber Beeler finished top three for the Eagles in the 200-meter freestyle with times of 2:26.86, 2:27.04, and 2:42.19 respectively.

The 50-meter backstroke saw Froude finishing in second with a time of 37.46, Snabu Neupane finishing third with a time of 48.62, and Marian Eskarous finishing in fifth with a time of 51.52.

Englehart claimed first place in the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 38.46 as Juliana Varner and Manali Misra finished in fourth and fifth with times of 43.01 and 46.29. 

Wetzel and Miriam Struble-Hedstrom  were the lone Eagles to compete in the 100-meter butterfly. Wetzel claimed second with a time of 1:17.34 as Struble-Hedstrom claimed fifth with a time of 1:35.69.

McClain logged a time of 29.73 in the 50-meter freestyle, claiming first. Varner finished in third with a time of 31.11.

The Eagles claimed third, fourth, and fifth in the 100-meter freestyle as Cline logged a time of 1:07.38, Varner claimed a 1:11.08, and Beeler finished with 1:12.17.

Ortiz claimed first in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:17.98 as Froude finished in second with a time of 1:21.53 and Eskarous finished fourth with a time of 1:55.79.

Three Eagles competed in the 100-meter breaststroke. McClain claimed second with a time of 1:26.19, Englerth was right behind in third with a time of 1:28.16, and Misra finished fifth with a time of 1:36.68.

The 400-meter freestyle saw the Eagles claiming first, third, and fifth. Wetzel competed to a time of 5:07.78, Jordan finished with a time of 5:13.80, and Beeler finished with a time of 5:44.15.

Cline claimed first in the 50-meter butterfly with a time of 32.62. Misra and Struble-Hedstrom finished in fifth and sixth with times of 40.50 and 41.30 respectively. 

Ortiz logged a time of 1:18.24 in the 100-meter IM, finishing in first. Jordan claimed fourth with a time of 1:20.06 and Froude finished in fifth with a time of 1:21.97.

Two JC teams competed in the 200-meter freestyle relay. Claiming first was a team of Englerth, Wetzel, Varner, and McClain with a time of 2:02.01. Finishing in fourth was a team of Ortiz, Struble-Hedstrom, Beeler,  and Jordan with a time of 2:13.85. 

The Eagles head to Immaculata next Saturday for a 1:00 pm start.
