Juniata Beats King's College in Overtime

WILKES BARRE, PA. - Juniata's women's soccer team defeated the King's College Monarchs in overtime on Saturday, Sept. 10 to give the Eagles' their second win of the season. Tied at two, Anna Kauffman scored in the 93rd minute to give Juniata the 3-2 lead.

King's College struck first, scoring in the 12th minute. However, the Eagles retailiated in the 14th to tie the game. Sophomore Caroline Braas (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) set up Kauffman (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area) with a cross from the right wing for her, and Juniata's, first goal of the day.

In the 29th minute, the Monarchs took the lead again, sneaking one through Kerry Leonard (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep.) in goal. They led 2-1 at the half.

At the start of the second half, Juniata came out strong, taking four shots within five minutes. The Monarchs defense was able to fend off the Eagles until Aubrie Christensen (Suwanee, Ga./Manheim Township) scored in the 78th minute to tie the game back up, assisted by Kauffman. Juniata outshot King's 4-1 in the last minutes of the game, yet nothing was able to go through for either side.

Just three minutes into overtime, Kauffman took on two defenders and scored the winning goal from five yards out.

Juniata totalled seven shots on goal against King's two shots on goal. Kauffman, Christensen, and Kristin Racis (Womelsdorf, Pa./Conrad Weiser) each contributed.

"During the second half of the game and all of the overtime, we really ramped up our energy level and achieve significant scoring chances," said head coach Scott McKenzie. "It was a real quality win."

The Juniata Eagles, now 2-2, will play at home in Gibbel Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 13 against Penn St.-Altoona at 7 p.m.
