TOWSON, Md.- After earning Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week honors in March, Grace Gibbs earned Defensive Athlete of the Week honors to become the first Eagles to earn both awards. She joins Landmark Offensive Athlete of the Week Peyton Goodrich in earning Juniata's second sweep of the awards this season.
Gibbs earns Landmark Athlete of the Week honors for the fourth time in her career, while it's her first time as Defensive Athlete of the Week in the Landmark's first season awarding defensive and offensive athlete of the week awards.
Gibbs played a key role in all facets of the game in a pair of crucial home Landmark Conference wins over (15-14) Susquehanna on Wednesday and Goucher (17-2) on Saturday, keeping Juniata third in the standings. With four games to play, they are 2.5 games ahead of the playoff bubble as the Eagles look to secure the program's first Landmark Conference playoff berth.
Across the two games, Gibbs totaled ten draw controls, eight caused turnovers, ten ground balls, 12 goals, and one assist. In the win over Goucher, she leveled her career-high (and program record) with ten points via nine goals and one assist.
The Juniata women's lacrosse team has two away days this week: Wednesday, they travel to Lycoming, and Saturday, they travel to Catholic.
