SELINSGROVE, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team lost on the road at Susquehanna University, 82-48, Wednesday evening.
Emily McCann led the way with 16 points, three rebounds and an assist while Laney Gerdich totaled nine points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal. Sarah Betts added six points, three rebounds and an assist off the bench. Bri Bodtorf tallied seven points, five rebounds and two assists.
Haily Sherman scored the opening bucket of the game, and following an SU three, McCann answered with one of her own off a Gerdich pass. Susquehanna scored inside as the game was 5-5 in a fast-paced opening minute of play. The hosts scored the next two points before Olivia Berg found Gerdich for a jumper. From there, SU erupted for a 21-0 run that made it 31-7 prior to a Bodtorf layup in the final 30 seconds of the quarter.
The second quarter was much closer as JC totaled 14 to SU's 15 points, but the Eagles trailed 46-23 at the break.
Juniata couldn't make up the first quarter gap as SU won the second half 36-25.
Susquehanna had a 50-34 advantage on the glass and a 28-8 advantage in assists.
The Eagles will travel to take on Moravian in the final game of the regular season, needing a win and some help elsewhere in the conference to make the postseason, Saturday at 2:00.
