Huntingdon, PA – The Juniata women's basketball team were defeated by Drew University on Saturday by a score of 62-58.
Bri Bodtorf put in 17 points, eight rebounds and a steal and a block while shooting 50% from the field. Haily Sherman knocked down 19 points, four rebounds and two steals. Laney Gerdich contributed nine points of her own while pulling down 13 rebounds.
Eagles were in this one to the end despite Drew University shooting 56% from behind the three-point line and 42% from the field. Juniata outrebounded Drew 37-35 and forced 16 turnovers from the Rangers while committing 14 turnovers of their own.
Juniata led this one through halftime, forcing the Rangers into some bad shots while hitting the glass hard. Bodtorf was on fire in the second quarter, going 5-5 from the field while knocking down a three for a perfect shooting second quarter.
The Eagles maintained a lead until the fourth, when the Rangers opened the quarter on a 9-0 run. The Eagles didn't fold, eventually clawing back within two on a Sherman layup. Later, another Sherman jumper from the left baseline brought JC back within two at 58-56, with just under two to play. But the Rangers held the Eagles off down the stretch.
The Rangers were on fire from deep, going 9-16 in the contest.
Juniata women's basketball returns to Memorial Gymnasium on Wednesday night at 6:00 PM against #17 Catholic University.
