Eagles Can't Recover from First Quarter Eruption by #3 Royals

Eagles Can't Recover from First Quarter Eruption by #3 Royals

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team lost to the #3 University of Scranton, 85-58, Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Gymnasium.

Steph Emert had a team-high 11 points with four rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Laney Gerdich contributed eight points, six rebounds, and an assist, while Bri Bodtorf tallied six points, three rebounds, five assists, four steals, and one block. Emma Coolidge added five points and three rebounds off the bench, while Deja Gillo had four points and five rebounds. Haily Sherman had six points, four rebounds, and a block, while Olivia Berg amassed six points, a rebound, and an assist.

The Royals came out on fire, shooting 55.0% from the floor and converting three triples, as Juniata found itself down 29-9 after one.

The Eagles were competitive the rest of the game, losing the middle two quarters but two points each and the fourth by three. But Juniata couldn't climb out of the big hole the Royals dug them into in the first.

At halftime of the contest, we recognized members of the 1979 women's basketball team, which compiled a 24-4 record, won 14 consecutive games at one point, and advanced to the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women's Quarterfinals.

Juniata returns to action Wednesday at home as they take on Elizabethtown.
