Rangers Sneak by Eagles

MADISON, N.J.- The Juniata women's basketball team lost a heartbreaker 55-54 at Drew University on Saturday afternoon.

Haily Sherman tied a career-high with 22 points, to go with five rebounds, two steals, and a block, while Steph Emert totaled 15 points, two rebounds, two assists, three steals, and two blocks. Emma Coolidge tacked on six points and four rebounds off the bench. Bri Bodtorf struggled from the field but had eight rebounds and four assists, while Laney Gerdich amassed four points, nine rebounds, and four assists.

The Eagles start off narrowly winning the first two quarters, using strong defense to hold the Rangers to 20% shooting from the floor in the first and 30% shooting in the second quarter. JC led 24-20 at the break.

The Rangers outscored the Eagles 18-12 in the third and carried a 38-36 lead into the final quarter. Trailing by as many as eight, JC managed to get within one following an Emert triple in the final 14 seconds.

Juniata fouled, and the Rangers converted both. JC couldn't shake free for a game-tying shot, and the game ended.

Juniata returns to action Wednesday at 7:00 against Susquehanna.
