Cardinals Pull Away in Second Half

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Juniata women's basketball team lost on the road to Catholic University Wednesday evening. 

Haily Sherman reached 1000 career points as she totaled 20 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Steph Emert added 15 points, three assists, two rebounds, and a steal. Bri Bodtorf contributed 12 points, four assists, two rebounds, and a steal. Laney Gerdich had 12 points, 11 rebounds, and an assist. 

Juniata held a narrow 20-19 edge at the end of the first. Emma Coolidge found Sarah Betts for a jumper with 49 seconds to play before the Cardinals answered with a layup in the final 20 seconds. 

Catholic took the lead midway through the second and led by five at the halftime break.

The Cardinals outscored the Eagles by 13 in the third, and JC couldn't recover, as the Cardinals held Juniata at bay for the rest of the game. 

The home team dominated the inside, scoring 56 points in the paint to Juniata's 26. They also got 37 points off the bench, the Eagles' 15. Juniata held an edge in three-pointers, making 10 threes while shooting 47.6% from deep. 

Juniata will return to action on the road at Drew on Saturday at 2:00.
