Towson, MD – The Juniata women's basketball team fell in a high-scoring battle to Goucher, 103-99, in Landmark Conference action Saturday evening at the Decker Sports & Recreation Center.
Haily Sherman led the Eagles with 20 points, two rebounds, and two steals, shooting an efficient 8-of-13 from the field. Laney Gerdich added 17 points and seven rebounds, while Steph Emert contributed 18 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Bri Bodtorf delivered a strong double-double with 16 points and 17 rebounds, while Sarah Betts came off the bench to score 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
Juniata trailed 27-25 after the first quarter but rallied in the second, outscoring Goucher 32-20 to take a 57-47 lead at halftime. They continued to soar in the 3rd quarter on the back of seven Gerdich points and five a piece from Emert and Bodtorf leading by 10 heading into the 4th. A strong 36-point final quarter from Goucher proved decisive as Juniata could not keep pace. Despite shooting an impressive 54.7% from the field and dominating the boards with 49 rebounds, Juniata was hampered by 31 turnovers, allowing Goucher to score 20 points off those mistakes.
The Eagles return to action when they head down to D.C. to play Catholic on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
