Huntingdon, PA – The Juniata women's basketball team secured a strong home victory over Moravian, 66-52, in a Landmark Conference matchup on Wednesday evening.
Steph Emert led the Eagles with a game-high 20 points, including 8-for-11 from the free-throw line, while also adding three rebounds, one steal, and an assist. Haily Sherman added 17 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Bri Bodtorf contributed 10 points, six rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Laney Gerdich dominated the boards with 17 rebounds, complementing her eight points and a steal.
The Eagles trailed 16-15 after one-quarter of play in Memorial Gymnasium. However, they took flight in the second quarter, outscoring the Greyhounds 15-16. Emma Coolidge, Olivia Berg, and Bodtorf all added key buckets in the dominant run. The Eagles would head into the half sporting a 30-22 lead they would not let go of. Continued success after the half would send the Eagles to the 4th quarter up 51-36. Emert was red hot from the stripe, finishing eight of 11. Her ability to get to the line proved paramount in the team's success as she would finish scoring for the Eagles, knocking down 2 free throws to finish the game.
Defense was the name of the game for Juniata, as Moravian struggled to find a rhythm from beyond the arc, shooting 0-for-12 from three-point range. This season, the Eagles have held opponents to 56 points per game in their six victories thus far. Juniata will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup as they travel to play Goucher on Saturday at 2:00 PM, where they seek their first away victory.
