Eagles Cruise Past Colonels in the Second Half

Eagles Cruise Past Colonels in the Second Half

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team picked up another conference victory as they bested Wilkes University 64-40 on Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Gymnasium.

Haily Sherman totaled 20 points to lead all scorers, along with two rebounds, an assist, four steals, and a block. Steph Emert tallied 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and a block, while Bri Bodtorf amassed 11 points, eight assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Emma Coolidge added 11 points, three rebounds, and an assist.

Bodtorf and Laney Gerdich assisted Sherman's layups to get the Eagles going early. Four Emert foul shots around a Bodtorf layup had the Eagles up 10-2. Sherman found Coolidge for a layup as the final bucket of the quarter as Juniata led by 15, 19-4.

The Colonels bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring JC 16-12, as the Eagles led 33-20 at halftime.

The visitors stayed within shouting distance, as they used a foul shot in the final second of the third quarter to get within single digits at nine, 43-34.

Wilkes scored first to get within seven, but a three from Emert and Sherman scored inside to push the lead back to 12. Bodtorf found Gerdich for a layup, Emert drilled a three of a Bodtorf pass, and Gerdich followed with a pair free throws. The Colonels made a three, and the Eagle defense shut it down from there as they didn't let Wilkes score the rest of the game.

Juniata outrebounded Wilkes 30-24, and the Eagles had 18 assists to the visitors' five. JC scored 23 points off turnovers.

The Eagles will return to action next Saturday in non-conference action, taking on #21 Messiah University at 2:00 p.m.
