Blue Jays Pull Away from Eagles in Second Half

Elizabethtown, Pa.- The  Juniata women's basketball team lost on the road to Elizabethtown College, 86-64, Wednesday evening. 

Steph Emert led the way for the Eagles, totaling 20 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Haily Sherman tallied 13 points, four rebounds, and two steals, while Laney Gerdich added 10 points, five rebounds, and a steal. 

A tightly contested first quarter saw the Eagles tie the score several times early and stayed hot on the Blue Jay's heels for the quarter, with Deja Gillo's jumper pulling JC within three inside the final minute. Elizabethtown scored the final three points of the quarter as JC trailed by six after one. 

The Blue Jays slowly extended their lead, but the Eagles managed to keep it manageable throughout the second frame, with Sherman laying the ball in in the final three seconds to cut the margin to 10 at 43-33.  

Elizabethtown outscored the Eagles 43-31 in the second half to ice the victory.  

Juniata returns to action at home this Saturday when they host Wilkes at 2:00 pm.
