SCRANTON, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team lost on the road to #3 University of Scranton, 84-38, Saturday afternoon.
Steph Emert had 15 points with two rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Haily Sherman had seven points, three rebounds, and a block.
The Royals scored the opening eight points of the game, before Emert stole the ball and scored on the other end. After another Royal turnover, Emert converted a triple. The hosts answered with two threes sandwiched around a layup before Sherman scored inside off a pass from Emily McCann. Scranton answered with a layup of their own before the McCann to Sherman connection ended with a layup again for the final bucket of the half as Juniata trailed by nine, 18-9.
Olivia Berg set up Emert for a three to bring Juniata back within eight, 20-12 early in the second. The Royals scored 18 of the next 19 points as Sherman's foul shot was the lone Eagle point before a Sarah Betts jumper made it 38-15 with under two to play. The Eagles trailed 41-15 at the break.
Scranton outscored Juniata 43-23 in the second half to close the game.
The Eagles will return to action Monday at Misericordia. Tipoff is at 6:00 PM.
