Greyhounds Control Glass to Down Eagles

Greyhounds Control Glass to Down Eagles

BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team lost on the road at Moravian University, 75-60, Friday afternoon inside Johnston Hall.

It was a fast and furious opening minutes as the teams traded buckets early. Steph Emert slid a pass to Emma Coolidge for the game's opening bucket. Emert followed with back-to-back layups as she blew by the defense twice for inside scores. On the following possession, Kynnedy Miller found Coolidge on the right wing, and she drilled a three to make it 9-3. Seven quick points from the Greyhounds saw them go up by one before a Haily Sherman layup saw JC retake the lead at 11-10. The hosts would close the final five minutes of the first quarter on an 11-2 run as they pressured the Eagles into 12 first-quarter turnovers.

Coolidge and Emelie Nonemaker found the bottom of the net for the Eagles in the opening minutes of the second quarter, but the Greyhounds were on fire early as they used several threes to push their lead to 17 midway through the quarter. A finish inside while being fouled by Sarah Betts, a Miller three off a pass from Nonemaker's assist, and another old-fashioned three-point play from Nonemaker saw JC get within 14 with a minute and a half to go. The Eagles went into the locker room with the score at 41-27.

Another Miller three off another Nonemaker assist saw JC get within 13 early in the third, but the Greyhound attack would not be denied as they pushed their lead to as many as 22. A pair of Sherman foul shots cut the deficit to 18 heading into the final period.

The Eagles couldn't manage to get the deficit to single digits as Moravian held Juniata off to get the win.

Moravian held an edge on the glass 47-30 and turned 21 JC turnovers into 24 points. The Eagles turned 18 Greyhound turnovers into 17 points.

Miller hit a season-high four threes as she led the team in scoring with 14 points. Betts provided some of everything off the bench as she added six points, three bounds, an assist, and a steal. Nonemaker chipped in off the bench as well with five points, a rebound, two assists, and a steal.

Juniata returns to action next Wednesday when they travel to take on Susquehanna Wednesday the 18th at 7:00.
