Profs Fly Past Eagles in Home Opener

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Juniata women's basketball team fell to the Rowan Profs, 92-54, in the 2022-23 home opener on Saturday afternoon.

Steph Emert led the team both offensively and defensively, with a team-high 12 points while leading the team with eight rebounds, two blocks, and three steals. She went a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line.

Emily McCann posted a team-high two three-pointers while having the most points of any player coming off the bench with 11.

The Profs opened the scoring with a three-pointer and a mid-range jumper in the first two minutes. Kynnedy Miller drew a foul on a layup and hit a free throw to get within two, but that was the closest the Eagles would get the rest of the way. Rowan went on a seven-point run before Emma Coolidge hit a layup, soon followed by a Miller three-pointer. Rowan continued to pull away, ending the quarter at 22-9.

Juniata was outscored 29-11 in the second half of the game. The Eagles got within ten early in the quarter off two Haily Sherman layups, two Emert free throws, and a layup from Coolidge to make it 27-17 in favor of Rowan. From there, Rowan pulled out to a 51-22 lead, including a run that featured 14 unanswered points.

Juniata led the way in the third quarter, posting 18 points to the Profs' ten. Miller missed a three-pointer, with Sarah Betts securing a rebound and passing to Emert for a layup. Emert went on to make four more free throws and another layup in the half for eight total points in the third. McCann logged five points in the quarter with two layups and a free throw.

The Eagles started the fourth quarter 21 points down and soon lost the chance of any comeback as the Profs went on a 13-0 run to open the fourth quarter. Bodtorf and Miller managed a three-pointer apiece while the team totaled 14 points to a commanding 31 from Rowan.

The Eagles will face off against the Arcadia Knights at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 22, as they continue to search for victory. This will be the second meeting of the teams, while Juniata earned a victory in the inaugural contest in a 94-75 victory at Memorial Gymnasium.
