Eagles Take Two From Royals to End the Season

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata softball team did their part, winning 11-1 (six innings) and 9-0 (five innings) over the University of Scranton, but didn't get the results they needed elsewhere to nab the fifth spot in the Landmark Playoffs.

In game one, Isabella Countryman went 4.0 innings and allowed one run on five hits with four walks, while Gracie Ruch got the win, pitching two innings and allowing one hit with two strikeouts.

Jessie Hunt was 1-4 with a home run, four RBI, and a run scored, while Kay Magill was 3-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Abby John was 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Ashley Robuck was 1-3 with a double and two RBI.

The Royals struck first, scoring on an RBI-double to right.

The pitchers dominated the next five innings, as the teams traded zeros.

John and Magill reached on singles to short and right field, respectively. John went to third on Magill's hit, and Magill stole second. Two batters later, Robuck mashed a double, Dani Berlin was hit by a pitch, and Alex Douglass kept the inning going as she reached on an error. Hunt punished the mistake by smashing a ball over the fence for a grand slam. Alison Superka was hit by a pitch, Morgan Brumbaugh doubled, and John drove them both in with a single. Magill singled before Emily Eutsey ended the game with the Eagles' second home run of the inning.

Maryn Swank was dominant on the mound in game two, going five innings and allowing no hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Superka was dominant with the bat, going 3-3 with a double, a home run, five RBI, and two runs scored. Douglass was 3-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Superka got things started with an RBI-double to left, and later Hunt scored on a wild pitch.

In the third, Magill drove in Lexi Roush with an RBI single to center. While in the fourth, Superka and Hunt scored on an error by the shortstop.

Superka ended the game in the fifth, clobbering a grand slam to end the game 9-0.

Juniata finishes the year 14-24.
