HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The #4 Juniata men's volleyball team picked up their first Continental Volleyball Conference win as they swept visiting Rutgers-Newark 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-16) Sunday afternoon.
Luke Hoffman had nine kills (.615) with an ace and five blocks. Chase Robbins totaled 11 kills (.348) with six digs and three blocks while Tyler Goldsborough had 11 kills (.389) with five digs and one block. Grant Lorelli had 16 assists, three kills, a dig and two blocks while Will Sierer added 12 assists, two aces and a dig.
Juniata hit .375 in the opening set, utilizing a 6-1 run midway through the set to build a hearty lead they would not relinquish. A service error by the Scarlet Raiders ended the set, 25-16.
The visitors made the second set interesting, as they used four straight points to take a late lead, 21-22. A block from Robbins and Hoffman, kills from Robbins and Lorelli put JC at set point before a Rutgers-Newark attack error ended set 25-22.
The Eagles used another early run, this time an 8-1 run to make it 14-6, to cruise to a win. Goldsborough hammered a kill to give Juniata match point, and a Scarlet Raider attack error ended the match.
Juniata returns to action on the road at Mount Union as they take on Aurora, Saturday at 3:00.
