Huntingdon, PA – The Juniata men's volleyball team suffered a tough 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 25-27, 25-10, 13-15) loss in the fifth set on Friday night.
Juan Armando led the Eagles in kills with 16 (.235), seven digs, two service aces, and five blocks. Tyler Goldsborough added 14 kills, 12 digs, and seven service aces which is tied for the third-most in a single match in program history.
Juniata started out strong, taking the first set 25-18. Messiah took set two 23-25.
Set three started out back and forth until Messiah went on a small run and eventually gained a four-point advantage. Juniata responded with five straight points to take the lead. Both teams traded points until we reached 25 at a tie. Messiah was able to secure the next two points to take the third set.
The Eagles wouldn't go down without a fight, dominating the fourth set 25-10 to take the match into a fifth set.
Our final set of action was a back-and-forth affair with both teams trading points up until the end. Chase Robbins had two late kills to bring Juniata within one, but Messiah knocked down the final dagger to put the Eagles away.
The 10-2 Eagles will face off with Rutgers-Newark on Sunday afternoon at 12:00pm inside Memorial Gymnasium.
