KENOSHA, Wis.- The #5 Juniata men's volleyball fell on the road to #8 Carthage, 3-0 (20-25, 22-25, 21-25) on day one of the FrogJump Invitational.
Luke Hoffman had 11 kills (.600) with an ace, a dig, and a solo block. Tyler Goldsborough tallied nine kills (.263) with an assist, five digs, and a block assist. Tyler Phillips totaled eight kills, four digs, and a block assist. Chase Robbins had seven kills, an assist, and five digs. Will Sierer had 21 assists, an ace, and seven digs, while Grant Lorelli contributed 11 assists and three kills.
In set one, the Eagles found themselves down by three early at 3-6, and they never entirely managed to pull even in the set. They got within two twice, but the Firebirds took set one on an Eagle error, 20-25.
The second set was tight throughout, but the Eagles had the lead at various points, including late on a service error at 22-21. However, the Firebirds closed the set with four straight kills to take the second set 22-25.
Juniata trailed by as many as seven in the third set, with a 4-0 run narrowing the gap, but the hosts managed to take the set and the match 21-25.
