HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's volleyball team snagged two more wins as they swept St. Vincent 3-0 (25-6, 25-14, 25-14) and Stevenson (25-16, 25-21, 25-19) on Saturday to move to 6-0 to start the season.
The Eagles dominated their matchup with the Bearcats, hitting an absurd .864 in the opening set. They scored 14 of the first 17 points and never looked back.
Juniata used an 8-0 run with the score 15-12 to blow the set open and eventually take 25-14 on a kill by Grant Lorelli.
The third set followed a similar script. The score was 15-12, and once again, the Eagles closed well with a 10-2 run to end the match.
Tyler Phillips had nine kills (.615) an assist, two aces three digs and three block assists. Luke Hoffman added six kills (.625) with an ace and four block assists. Lorelli had 13 assists, four kills, and a block assist, while Will Sierer had 14 assists and two digs.
In the second match, the Eagles jumped on the Mustangs early with a 9-3 advantage. JC nursed the lead the rest of the set, winning 25-16 on a service error.
The second set saw the Mustangs stay close, pulling within two late at 23-21. Juniata handled the surge, with kills from Phillips and Lorelli ending the set.
Stevenson tried to force the match to a fourth set again, staying on the Eagles' heels late at 21-19, but the Eagles weren't deterred. Juan Armando and Phillips smashed kills; Hoffman got a block and combined with Phillips for another block to end the match.
Phillips led the way again as he had 12 kills (.364) with an ace, three digs, a solo block, and two block assists. Chase Robbins added nine kills, two aces, and five digs, while Armando totaled nine kills (.333) with an assist and a dig. Sierer had 22 assists, three digs, and a solo block while Lorelli tallied 13 assists.
Juniata will return to action on the road as they take on Eastern Mennonite Saturday at 4:00.
