Eagles Defeat Maroons

SALEM, Va.- The #8 Juniata men's volleyball team returned to the winning column with a 3-1 (24-26, 25-16, 25-20, 25-15) win at Roanoke Saturday afternoon. 

Set one saw the Eagles trailing late at 18-22 before taking the next three points on a pair of Tyler Goldsborough kills and a Maroon error. A back and forth, with JC taking a quick two on an error and a solo block from Tyler Phillip to make it 24-24. The Maroons took the next two points to take set one, 26-24. 

A 7-2 run by the Eagles midway through the second set put the Eagles up by eight, 18-10. Juniata cruised the rest of the way, winning on a Reese Ganter ace. 

The third set was tightly contested, with the Maroons pulling even at 18-18. Three kills from Goldsborough, two errors by the hosts, and a Phillips kill gave JC setpoint 24-18. Goldsborough ended the match with another kill, 25-19. 

Set four opened with the Eagles' 12-3 run, and they never looked back as they walked to a 25-15 win. 

Goldsborough was unstoppable with 23 kills (.488), an assist, three aces, seven digs, and a block assist. Campbell Gerdeman had 16 kills (.375), eight digs, a solo block, and a block assist. Luke Hoffman totaled nine kills (.500), an assist, two aces, two digs, a solo block, and four block assists. Tyler Phillips contributed eight kills, two digs, three solo blocks, and four block assists. 

The Eagles will take on Elizabethtown on Wednesday at 7:00.
