Men's Volleyball Falls to Southern Virginia in CVC Championship Rematch

BUENA VISTA, Va.- The #10 Juniata men's volleyball team lost on the road to #7 Southern Virginia, 3-0 (22-25, 16-25, 23-25), Friday evening at Knight Arena in a Continental Volleyball Conference showdown and a rematch of last year's CVC championship.

The Eagles were leading early, but the Knights retook the lead as JC found themselves in a five-point hole at 10-15. Reese Ganter (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township HS) got a kill, partnered with Kevin Duffy III (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle HS) for a block before a Southern Virginia error and another Ganter kill brought them within one. The Eagles never got closer than two the rest of the way as they dropped et one 22-25.

JC never led in the second set was the Knights hit a blistering .714, and the Eagles hit .045 as they lost 16-25.

The third set was a back-and-forth affair, with the Eagles losing by four 15-19. Two errors, an ace from Will Phelan (Saegertown, Pa. / Saegertown HS) and another Ganter kill pulled them even at 19-19. The teams traded points with a Campbell Gerdeman (Carlsbad, Calif. / Sage Creek HS) kill, making it 23-23. The Knights took the final two points to seal the match in their favor.

Men's volleyball is back at it tomorrow at Eastern Mennonite in more CVC action, tomorrow at 11:00 am.
