HUNTINGDON, PA- Backed by a collective .458 hitting percentage, the Juniata men's volleyball team dispatched Marymount 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-20) on Saturday night at Memorial Gymnasium. The Eagles improve their record to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in the Continental Volleyball Conference. The Saints drop to 2-8 and 0-2 in CVC play.
Paul Kuhn (York, PA/Central York) had a team-high .765 hitting percentage on the night to go along with 13 kills and five service aces. Matt Elias (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) had 21 assists. Tommy Keisling (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) paced the defense with eight digs.
The Eagles jumped out to an 8-5 lead early on in the first set. The Saints rallied after trailing 11-8 with four straight points to go ahead 12-11. Juniata countered with a 5-0 run to go up 16-12 but Marymount answered with four straight points to knot the game at 16-16. JC was able to take back the lead but the set stood at 20-20. Back-to-back kills by Kuhn put Juniata ahead 22-20 and the Saints were able to make it 22-21 but Kuhn's two kills and service ace to end the set gave the Eagles the win.
Juniata had control of the second set and cruised to the win to lead 2-0 in the match. Marymount led 12-9 in the third game but the Eagles rallied and went up 18-17. A 7-3 run by JC to end the set gave it the victory.
The Eagles travel to Langhorne, PA next for a CVC match with Cairn on Wednesday. Start time will be at 6 p.m.
