OWINGS MILLS, Md. – No. 2 Juniata College men's volleyball battled back and forth with No. 15 Stevenson University Friday night before coming away with the 3-2 (21-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 15-8) win and improving to 4-0 in Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) play. Juniata (17-3) has now won seven of its last eight matches and sits atop the CVC East. They are 3-1 in five set matches and 6-1 against ranked opponents this season.
Four Eagles earned double-digit kills led by reigning CVC player of the week Alex McColgin (Buffalo, N.Y./Hamburg). The junior had a match-high 18 kills and junior Joe Bortak (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) and sophomore Chad Albert (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) finished with 15 and 10 kills, respectively. Junior Justin Waldorf (Eden, N.Y./Eden) picked up his first double-double of the season with 13 kills and 10 digs of his own.
The offense was run by sophomore Matt Elias (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) who finished with a match-high 55 assists, two off from his career-best. Picking up a match and career-high was sophomore Brendan Smith (Fuquay-Varina, N.C./Fuquay-Varina). The libero earned 17 digs.
Juniata is in the second half of an eight-match road trip. The Eagles head to face Cairn University on Saturday, March 8. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
