Three Eagles Earn CVC All-East Division Honors

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – No. 8 Juniata College men's volleyball saw three Eagles named to the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) All-East Division Team, the organization released Friday. Junior Ross Madden (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) and sophomores Joe Bortak (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) and Paul Kuhn (York, Pa./Central York) made the cut.  This is Juniata's second year in the league and second year they have had over two student-athletes recognized.

"It is great for the hard work everyone on the team put in this year to be recognized with three players earning all conference," said second year head coach Kevin Moore.  "Our practice gym is extremely competitive and plays a huge rule in preparation for the tough schedule we play."

Madden and Bortak earned all-division honors for the second year in a row.  Madden was among the team kill and dig leaders in conference play this year.  He is the Eagles only junior starter.  Bortak finished the regular season ranked third nationally in hitting percentage and 21st in blocks per set.  He led the team in blocks and was third in total number of kills against conference opponents.

"Joe and Ross' repeated recognition demonstrates how hard they work to continually improve their respective games," said Moore. "Team's consistently serve at Ross to try and take him out offensively.  Joe's ability to take pressure away from the other guys really balances the offense."

This is Kuhn's first postseason honor.  The 6-7, outside hitter was the Eagles offensive leader this year with the highest attack, kill, service ace and point totals against conference opponents.  His 26 service aces are fifth best in the league.

"Paul has been playing both pin positions," Moore added.  "His offensive numbers rank among the top in the conference, but it's his improved passing that has helped the team succeed the most this year."

Juniata received a bye in the first round of the CVC Tournament.  They will face the winner of Thiel and Carthage Saturday, April 13 at 10 a.m.
