No. 8 Juniata Sweeps Thiel 3-0, Improves to 19-10

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The 8th ranked Juniata College men's volleyball earned redemption Wednesday night as the Eagles swept Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) rival Thiel 3-0 (27-25, 26-24, 25-19) on the road. Juniata (19-10, 3-2 CVC) lost to the Tomcats at home 3-1 in their last match.  The win snapped an eight match win streak for Thiel (18-9) that dated back to March 17.

 

Junior Ross Madden (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) finished with a match high 14 kills.  He committed zero errors on 29 swings for a .483 hitting percentage.  Freshman Matt Elias (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) continued to facilitate the offense.  He earned a match-high 40 assists and picked up a team-high six digs.   Elias has finished with 40+ assists five times this season. Juniata hit .368 as a team, committing just 10 errors on 95 attempts.

 

Defensively, sophomore Joe Bortak (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) tied for the match-high two blocks.  Juniata out-blocked Thiel 6.0-5.0.

 

Juniata is on the road facing CVC opponents for the next three matches.  They take on Stevenson on Friday, April 5 at 4 p.m. before facing Eastern Mennonite and Cairn on Saturday, April 6 in the final CVC East Divisional Play before the conference tournament.
