HUNTINGDON, Pa. – No. 4 Juniata College men's volleyball defeated Penn State Behrend 3-1 at home Friday night in the Kennedy Sports+Recreation Center. Four Eagles finished in double-figure kills as Juniata improved to 17-7 overall.
Junior Ross Madden (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) earned with a double-double of 13 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Paul Kuhn (York, Pa./Central York) led all attackers. He finished with a match-high 15 kills. Junior Alex McColgin (Buffalo, N.Y./Hamburg) and sophomore Joe Bortak (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) put down 14 and 10 kills, respectively.
Bortak tied freshman Matt Elias (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) for the match-high of five blocks. Elias took over setting duties and finished with a match-high 43 assists, one off from his career-best. In the back row, sophomore libero Eric McCarthy (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) picked up a match-high 13 digs.
The Lions were led by Sheehan Ty who finished with a team best 14 kills.
Juniata returns to action this weekend as they head down to face NCAA Division I George Mason on Friday, March 22 before taking on Kean and Hunter in a tri-match on Saturday, March 23. The Eagles are 14-29 all-time against George Mason. They upset the Patriots 3-2 last year when the teams met in Huntingdon. Juniata is 1-0 against Kean and 2-0 against Hunter.
