GREENVILLE, Pa. –No. 4 Juniata men's volleyball held on for the 3-1 (28-26, 19-25, 25-17, 25-20) win over host Thiel College Saturday afternoon in day one of the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) Crossover event. Sophomore Eric McCarthy (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) picked up a career-high 20 digs. Juniata improved to 5-2 with the win.
The Eagles were led offensively by junior Ross Madden (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) and sophomore Alex McColgin (Buffalo, N.Y./Hamburg). The pair combined for over 60-percent of the teams kills. Madden recorded a match and season-high 17 kills hitting .412 after committing just three errors on 34 swings.
Freshman Matt Elias (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) also set a career-high by earning 22 assists. Madden dominated at the net with junior Paul Ejups (Bay Shore, N.Y./West Islip). He led with a match-high 3.5 blocks while Ejups tied his career-best three blocks.
Juniata takes on No. 2 Carthage tonight at 6 p.m. They are 3-2 all-time against the Red Men. The Eagles lost their last meeting with Carthage 3-1.
